July 2009: Schluter SA
At Schluter SA, we are passionate about Fine African Coffee, and consider it an honour and privilege to be the EAFCA member of the month for July 2009.
Our Drive
We believe that Africa has so much to offer in addition to the very finest coffees in the world - The culture, the breathtaking scenery, the music, and above all the people. On an average trip to Africa, we see more smiles in a day than we see in most European countries in a week. Africa has an infectious optimism, and we have been infected!
Our company strap line is ‘The Joy of African Coffee’, and this is what we aim to bring to consumers around the world.
Achievements & Milestones
As a company, we have just celebrated our 150th anniversary, and we are now run by the 6th generation of the same family. We value our heritage, and the relationships which we have built up over many years. We have been present in Africa since the first days of commercial coffee production, and all of the last 3 generations running the company have spent a good proportion of their lives living in East and Central Africa.
The Founders of the Company

Our vision is:
- To be the best supplier of Quality African Coffees to the World Market.
- To inspire a love of and confidence in African Coffees by supplying our clients with a consistently high standard in both product and service.
- To encourage the production of fine African Coffees by always rewarding quality.
- We are committed to sustainability.
- To be a bridge between the grower and the industry; combining the finance, risk management, and marketing skills required by the grower, with the quality assurance, logistics, and financial security required by the industry.
Operations
We operate in most African producing countries. With a focus on gourmet Arabica coffees, we operate primarily in East Africa, and also with the Arabica production in Cameroon. We have a young and dynamic team in Nyon, Switzerland – where we have 10 staff. We are shortly to re-open an office in Liverpool, UK after an absence of about 50 years.
We take pride in promoting Africa’s finest coffees, and have produced educational and promotional posters for Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Zambia and Uganda. Please request copies if you are interested.
